2011-2012: Rebound Rumble

Winning the 2012 regional competition at Chesapeake!

2012 was a really big year for the Rohawks. The 2012 game was Rebound Rumble, involving picking up and shooting basketballs and balancing on bridges. Looking back, we improved leaps and bounds from our first year, only two seasons before. We stressed professionalism, team work, efficiency and cooperation. As a result, at Chesapeake, we came out as Regional Winners. With a larger team, we were able to develop scouting for the first time, and we joined an alliance that we worked extremely well with, winning every elimination match. In New York City we won the Coopertition Award, for our high degree of professionalism and sportsmanship. We also owe our success this season our core idea of designing a robot that plays well to the most important aspect of the game. FIRST stressed the cooperative balancing element of the game, so we designed a robot that balanced well.

Following our win in Chesapeake, we were invited to attend the Championships held in St. Louis. This was the first time our team ever attended and it was a truly inspirational learning experience. FIRST invites the top 400 teams from around the world to compete at the Championships and being considered one of them was huge for our team. We’ve taken everything we learned there and used it as we continue to grow as a team.
